Toyota tops car sales for the third year in a row

The Japanese automaker will sell 10.5 million vehicles in 2022, while its closest rival Volkswagen will sell 8.3 million.

Toyota Motor Corp sold 10.5 million vehicles in 2022, maintaining its status as the world’s top seller for the third year in a row. This was reported by Reuters on January 30.

Global sales of the group, including truck division Hino Motors and small car maker Daihatsu, fell 0.1%, according to the report. But record overseas sales of 8.6 million vehicles helped offset a 9.6% decline in domestic sales to 1.9 million.

Toyota’s rival Volkswagen Group, the second-best automaker, previously reported its lowest sales in more than a decade of 8.3 million vehicles as anti-COVID restrictions in China and Russia’s war in Ukraine disrupted in supply chains.

While Toyota was also affected by some chip supply restrictions, the Japanese automaker said strong demand in Asia, as well as capacity expansion and optimization in Asia and North America, helped boost global production of 5% in 2022.

Toyota in November revised its production forecast for the current fiscal year (ending March 31, 2023) from 9.7 million vehicles to 9.2.

Remember that at the top of the most popular car models in Ukraine in 2022 are Toyota, Renault and Skoda.
