Last year, the Telecommunications Private Investment Supervision Agency (Osiptel) imposed over S$87 million in fines on telecommunications operators that offered fixed and mobile telephony, pay TV and internet services.
Most of sanctions They are related to interruptions and availability of the service, lack of delivery of information to Osiptel, robbed terminals, street sales and others. But which companies were fined the most?
According to Osiptel, 68% of the sanctions imposed in 2022 concerned Telefónica del Perú and Entel.
telephone accumulated only S/43 million fines (9348.33 UIT), i.e. 49% of fines fell on this company. Meanwhile, Entel has recorded S$16.55 million in fines imposed.
Similarly, the remaining 32% corresponded to amounts received from fines against Claro (SGD 11.73 million), Bitel (SGD 9.08 million) and others (SGD 7.25 million).
But Telefónica was not only the most fined in 2022, but also the one that has accumulated the most sanctions over the past five years.
Osiptel clarifies that over the past five years, the company has accumulated about SGD 157 million in fines due to various violations of legal regulations and contractual obligations applicable to operating companies in the sector. This amount means that they received four out of every 10 sanctions applied (41.71%).
In total, in recent years, Osiptel has fined telecom operators S/377.55 million.
fines applies to Claro (SG$72.20m), Entel (SG$65.05m), Bitel (SG$54.36m) and other operating companies (SG$28.48m), totaling 58.29 % of the total.
