southern peru continues to be in conflict over early election protests, and this could have repercussions for Christmas Dinners population, since about 2 million units cannot be distributed.
According to the Peruvian Association of Bakery and Confectionery Entrepreneurs (Aspan), heavy vehicles cannot reach their destination due to the blockade. The problem originates in the capitals of each region, since it is from there that panettone; However, due to blockade carriers heavy loads do not want to circulate for fear of attack.
“This week they should deliver more than 2 million. panettone in the province of governments; However, from my colleagues in the capital, I understand that they have problems with the ability to reach the corners of the interior provinces, because the roads are blocked and there is a big risk,”
Cusco, for example, is supposed to send its panetons into the jungle, but so far this distribution has not happened. The same thing happened in Ayacucho, Arequipa, Tacna, Moquegua, La Libertad, etc.
According to Pantoya, from day one protest started losses with additional costs caused by the penalty represented by the delay in delivery. For every unit of risk, there are 18 salts; i.e. about S$36 million.
“That is why we are asking to open roads, as a humanitarian aid for food, not only panettone, but all food, so that it does not spoil, because it harms. If this is not resolved in the next few days, these panettones will have to be sold in the capital (Lima),” he explained.
He stressed the importance of selling panettone on Christmas Eve. “After the 25th, it will cost not 18 s/, nor 8 s/, nor 5 s/, but will cost an average of 2 s/,” he explained.
Panettone sales expected to rise
In that Christmas Campaign sales of panettone were expected to rise by up to 20%, the Peruvian Bakery and Confectionery Association (Aspan) forecast in October this year.
Aspan manager William Heredia said that after a nougat campaign that outperformed last year’s sales by about 15%, a similar increase is expected for the panettone campaign.
“Our calculations are very encouraging, we see that we will also recover 15% or 20% more panettone sales,” Aspan’s RPP manager said.
Heredia commented that the bakeries plan to sell two types of panetone: classic, which will be priced from 15 yuan; and premium, the price of which will be higher than S/25.
