Senate USA Thursday approved a major spending package that includes $45 billion in aid to Ukraine and electoral reforms aimed at preventing a repeat of last year’s assault on Capitol Hill.
$1.7 trillion annual plan to be ratified House of Representatives before the Friday midnight deadline to keep the federal government open.
“This bill will benefit families, veterans, our national security, and even the health of our Democratic institutions,” said Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer.

During a historic visit to Washington this week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged Democratic and Republican lawmakers to approve $45 billion in budget aid for his country.
The text is not expected to have a bumpy ride in the lower house, where Democrats hold a slim majority for a few more days until the 118th legislature begins in January, this time with a Republican majority.
The text deals with the financing of almost every aspect of the day-to-day running of the federal government, including the enforcement of laws, the setting of foreign policy, the printing of money, and the operation of the military.
But it also has less overtly money-related additions, such as a reform that tightens up ambiguous 19th-century electoral law to make it clear that vice presidents do not have the power to unilaterally overrule elections.
Donald Trumpformer Republican president who was defeated by Joe Biden in 2020, he took advantage of the vague wording of the text to argue that his deputy Mike Pence could refuse to hand over command to a Democrat amid false allegations of electoral fraud.
Vice President’s rejection of this request is motivated Donald Trump delivering the speech was later considered the spark that ignited the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Trump, who has begun the race to retake the White House, issued a statement calling the package approved by the Senate on Thursday “monstrous.”
