Mexico In 2022, for the fourth year in a row, it remained the most dangerous country for information professionals, adding 11 journalists killed, three more than last year. Ukraineaccording to the annual balance sheet published this Wednesday by Reporters Without Borders (RSF).
Place of study Latin America as the most dangerous area for the exercise of press freedom, as the region accounts for almost half of the world’s violent deaths (47.4%) of journalists in the line of duty.
In total this year, “57 journalists paid with their lives for their commitment to information, compared to 48 murders in 2021 and 50 in 2020,” the report says. RNF.
65% of them “were killed in areas considered peaceful,” but the worst figures come from Mexico, where 11 journalists were killed.
This is four more than in 2021 and three more than in the same period in Ukrainewhich was the second deadliest place in the world for journalists due to the Russian invasion.
Haiti came in third with six journalists killed, while Brazil tied Syria and Yemen with three.

Among the dead journalists, 49 were local and 8 foreign, and most of them were killed “intentionally” (only a dozen of the total deaths were accidental, not being overtly white).
