Time will be needed to “carefully weigh the pros and cons” of developing Russia’s response, Dmitry Peskov said.

The EU countries’ agreement on a price ceiling for natural gas is contrary to market principles. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Interfax reported on Monday, December 19.

“This is a violation of the market pricing process, an encroachment on the market process, any references to the ceiling cannot be accepted,” Peskov stressed.

It will take time, he said, to “carefully weigh the pros and cons” when crafting Russia’s response.

“You know that the issue of the oil ceiling has dragged on a bit. But it will be published, and so it is with gas. It will take some time,” the Kremlin spokesman said.

Earlier on Monday, it was learned that EU countries had reached an agreement to set a gas price cap of 180 euros per MWh, or about 1,850 euros per thousand cubic meters.
