An assessment is currently underway to determine the deposit’s reserves. According to media reports, the size of the new well is 3.5 trillion cubic feet of gas.
Egypt has discovered a large gas field in the Nargis block in the eastern Mediterranean. This is what Oil Minister Tarek El Molla said, report on Sunday, December 18, Reuters.
According to the minister, the assessment is currently underway to determine the deposit reserves.
According to Chevron’s website, Nargis is one of four offshore exploration blocks in which Chevron has operating interests in Egypt, along with Tharwa Petroleum Co.
The size of the new well is 3.5 trillion cubic feet of gas. Egyptian officials declined to confirm details of the search.
The search could kick off Egypt’s efforts to position itself as an energy center in the eastern Mediterranean following the 2015 announcement of Eni’s discovery, the giant Zohr gas field.
Recall that in 2015, the leading Italian oil and gas company Eni discovered the largest gas field in the Mediterranean off the coast of Egypt.
