Iranian authorities plan to significantly expand production of low-enriched uranium, according to the IAEA.
Iran has raised the rate of uranium enrichment to a record level in the history of the country’s nuclear industry. This was said by the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammed Islami, Anadolu reported yesterday.
“Today, Iran’s uranium enrichment capacity has reached the highest level in the history of the country’s nuclear industry, more than doubling previous levels,” Islami said in an interview with Iranian media.
According to the IAEA, the Iranian authorities plan to significantly expand the production of low-enriched (up to 5% or up to 20%) uranium at Fordow by installing 14 more cascades of advanced IR-6 centrifuges.
In addition, Iran intends to develop fuel enrichment activities at Natanz and will soon install a second production building capable of accommodating more than 100 centrifuge cascades.
Recall that last month Iran began enriching uranium to 60% in another nuclear facility. Tehran’s actions are a response to the IAEA resolution.
Also, Iran was told that they could build a nuclear bomb, but they said they would not.
