In November, a Russian official told CIA Director William Burns that Russia would not surrender, no matter how many of its soldiers were killed or wounded.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to lose up to 300 thousand Russian soldiers in the war against Ukraine, one of the claims of NATO states, according to an investigation by The New York Times.
The publication’s team of journalists investigated one of the main questions of the war in Ukraine: why Russia handled its aggression so poorly.
Last month, a Russian official told CIA Director William Burns that Russia would not surrender, no matter how many of its soldiers were killed or wounded, according to the report.
“People who know Putin say he is willing to sacrifice countless lives and wealth as necessary, and in a rare face-to-face meeting with Americans last month, the Russians wanted to deliver a stern message to President Biden : no matter how many Russian soldiers are killed or wounded on the battlefield, Russia will not surrender.
One NATO member warned allies that Putin could suffer up to 300,000 Russian troops killed or wounded – about three times the likely losses to date.
Meanwhile, a few days after the invasion, Putin told the Israeli leader that the Ukrainians were “tougher than I was told.” But, as he warned Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, “We are a big country and we have patience.”
The publication said that from the first days of the invasion, Putin privately admitted that the war had not gone according to plan.
Recall that the head of the US Central Intelligence Agency, William Burns, believed that at the time of the war in Ukraine, Russia was not in the mood for real negotiations.
