The British prime minister wants information on how Ukrainian defenders are using London’s military supplies.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has ordered an audit of military aid to Ukraine and assess the effectiveness of Britain’s use of weapons. On Friday, December 16, the BBC reported, citing its own sources.
It is noted that such an order caused concern in the British government.
According to the publication, Sunak wants information on how the Ukrainian defenders are using British military supplies and what is the importance of Britain’s aid to Ukraine in this war.
“It’s about seeing what we put in, what we got out,” the source said.
The British government believes that Ukraine and Russia have reached a dead end and the only way for one side to get ahead is to significantly increase its stockpile of weapons. Ukraine can only do this by replenishing its stockpiles of weapons with the help of the US and European countries, led by the UK.
Against the backdrop of Sunak’s desire to conduct an “audit”, the British government fears that the prime minister is too cautious on this issue. Sources say that the British prime minister, like the American leader Joe Biden, does not want to provoke a global conflict, and expresses disapproval of such a method. Sunak is expected to be as determined as his predecessor, Boris Johnson.
“We have hardened the US decision at all levels. … We don’t want Rishi to strengthen Biden’s caution. We want him to act like Boris,” the source said.
According to journalists, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky knew what was going on and tried to persuade the British prime minister to increase military support.
“President Zelensky sensed what was happening. He was talking to Rishi. He was trying to inspire him, saying that the UK is great liberators, great fighters, that we need you,” the BBC quoted a British government source said.
It will be remembered that on November 19, Rishi Sunak arrived in Kyiv and met with Zelensky. They discussed the most important issues for Ukraine and the UK, as well as for global security. In particular, it is reported that Sunak promised the air defense of Ukraine for 50 million pounds.
