The US is doing “exactly what Biden told Putin we would do” in the event of a Russian attack on Ukraine.
Russia is solely responsible for any provocations regarding the war in Ukraine. This was said at a briefing on Friday, December 16, by the Deputy Speaker of the US State Department, Vedant Patel, who commented on the words of Russian officials that the supply of the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system to Ukraine “will lead to unpredictable consequences,” CNN reports.
“The only provocative steps taken in this entire conflict have been carried out by Russia. The US is not and has never been at war with Russia,” Patel said.
The State Department spokesman also added that the US is doing “exactly what Biden told Putin we would do” in the event of a Russian attack on Ukraine – “provide security assistance and help Ukraine defend itself and protect its territorial integrity and sovereignty.”
In addition, Patel said, the United States has taken steps to hold the Russian Federation accountable through sanctions, export controls and other measures. The latest steps were taken on Thursday, the representative of the US State Department recalled.
Remember, the Russian Embassy in the United States said that the possible supply of the Patriot missile system to Ukraine “will lead to unpredictable consequences” and threaten global security. In response, the Pentagon said the United States would not “allow comments from Russia to influence the security assistance” that President Joe Biden’s administration is providing to Ukraine.
And on Friday, the White House said Washington will announce the next security package for Ukraine, which will include more air defense systems.
