Bosnia and Herzegovina applied for membership in the European Union in February 2016.
At the summit, the heads of government of the EU member states on December 15 approved the recommendation of the European Commission and granted Bosnia and Herzegovina the status of an EU candidate. The Sarajevo Times reported it.
Bosnia and Herzegovina applied for EU membership in February 2016. In December 2022, the European Council recommended that Bosnia and Herzegovina be granted EU candidate status, provided that the country takes the steps outlined in recommendation of the European Commission in October 2022.
In order to start EU accession negotiations, Bosnia and Herzegovina must implement the 14 key priorities outlined in the Commission’s May 2019 opinion.
By the way, on June 23 Ukraine and Moldova received the status of candidates for EU membership. A week before, the leaders of Italy, France, Germany and Romania supported Kyiv in granting this status to Ukraine.
Recall that the Council of the European Union at a meeting on December 13 recommended to give Bosnia and Herzegovina the status of a candidate for joining the European Union.
