The head of the international organization called for investment in the sustainable recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres said the scale of the devastation across Ukraine from Russia’s all-out military offensive requires stronger support from the international community, which goes beyond humanitarian aid. On Tuesday, December 13, the UN press service reported.
The head of the UN pointed out that the humanitarian disaster in Ukraine is growing, because it is winter outside, and many energy facilities in Ukraine have been damaged by the aggressor.
“Civilians pay a particularly high price during the winter, especially those living on the front lines and those cut off from heat, water and basic services,” he said.
Guterres pointed out that today, 10 million consumers in Ukraine, including families, businesses, hospitals and schools, have been left without electricity, and millions without access to water and heat.
He said that in the past few months, humanitarian organizations have provided direct winter aid to more than 630,000 civilians, and 400 generators have been moved to critical facilities.
“Thousands more are being bought or sent to Ukraine from other countries. But all this is a drop in the ocean,” he said.
The UN Secretary General called for stronger support for our country from the international community and investment in the sustainable recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine.
“And we must work together to create the conditions for peace in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and international law,” Guterres added.
It should be noted that UN representatives came to Kherson on a working trip.
