The G7 leaders said they would hold Putin and those responsible for the war in Ukraine accountable in accordance with international law.
Members of the G-7 summit, following a meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on December 12, announced that they would hold Russian President Vladimir Putin accountable for the war against Ukraine. The corresponding statement of the G7 heads of state was published by the British government.
“There is no impunity for war crimes and other atrocities. President Putin and those responsible for this will be held accountable in accordance with international law. We reaffirm that Russia’s irresponsible nuclear rhetoric is unacceptable and the any use of chemical, biological or nuclear weapons will have serious consequences,” the statement said.
G7 leaders also point out that Russia needs to pay Ukraine to rebuild critical infrastructure damaged or destroyed as a result of its brutal war.
The heads of state expressed their full support for Ukraine as long as there is a need for it, and noted that the war must end – Russia must cease fire and withdraw troops from all territory of Ukraine.
“Russia’s war of aggression must end. So far, we have seen no evidence that Russia is committed to continuing peace efforts. Russia can end this war immediately by ending its attacks against Ukraine and the complete and unconditional withdrawal of its troops from the territory of Ukraine,” the G7 said.
The Group of Seven also supported Zelensky’s peace initiative. In particular, Zelensky suggested convening a special summit, the Global Peace Formula Summit, “to decide how and when we can implement the points of the Ukrainian peace formula.”
It will be remembered that Volodymyr Zelensky is sure that the Russian leadership cannot avoid responsibility for the crime against Ukraine.
It was also reported that the UN had a draft resolution on the establishment of an international tribunal to hold the Russian leadership accountable for crimes of aggression in Ukraine.
