The International Legion was created by the Ukrainian government at the initiative of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to resist Russian aggression.
The Foreign Legion as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine protects the values of Europe. This was announced on Sunday, December 11, by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Raznikov at a joint briefing with the Swedish Minister of Defense Paul Jonsson at the Odessa-Ukraine Media Center.
According to Reznikov, the existence of this legion in the Armed Forces of Ukraine has an ideological and political character for Ukraine.
“This is the support of the population of these countries, who on the battlefield want to stop the arbitrariness of one of the countries, who believe that the world should be governed by law, not by law, but by force . They destroyed the international security system that was built after the Second World War by their actions. Therefore, the presence of a foreign legion is definitely this support for us,” said Reznikov.
In addition, he drew attention to the fact that such military cooperation is a practical exchange of experience. Reznikov also pointed out that the Ukrainian army also has a lot to learn, because “it knows how to defeat the” second army in the world “”.
The minister clarified that potential candidates for the Foreign Legion apply to Ukrainian diplomatic institutions in their countries of residence. Then, after several procedures, they went to Ukraine, where they concluded a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Foreign citizens serve in the battalions of the Territorial Defense Forces, marines in the Azov Regiment.
Recall that letters with a proposal to join the foreign legion in Ukraine for a monetary reward, which began to arrive to German citizens purportedly on behalf of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Dusseldorf, are fake.
