During searches in the dioceses of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate, the Ukrainian Security Service found Russian passports held by priests, the flag of Novorossiya, passes of “Russian federal advisers”, prayers for Russia, and a collection of icons stolen from the house of the Honorary Consul of Lithuania.
These finds were discovered by the SBU during searches in Kherson, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr and Volyn regions. Law enforcement officers found Russian passports among the priests of the UOC-MP from Kherson, and the rector of the Assumption Cathedral was present in the Kremlin hall during the announcement of the annexation of four regions of Ukraine. He managed to leave a few days before the liberation of the city.
On the territory of the monastery of the Ovruch-Korosten diocese and the skete in the Zhytomyr region, ex-criminals who keep in touch with Russian subscribers were exposed. During an inspection of the premises of the St. Nicholas Nilets Monastery, they found texts of prayers for Russia and Russian “textbooks” in which they praise the Kremlin regime.
Recall that in November the SBU conducted a series of searches in churches, monasteries and laurels of the UOC-MP, including in the Kiev-Pechersk. The searches began after a scandal over a prayer service in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, during which the parishioners sang the song “The bell floats, floats over Russia, Mother Rus’ is awakening.” Subsequently, the SBU conducted searches in monasteries in Transcarpathia, in the Mukachevo and Ivano-Frankivsk dioceses, the Pochaev Theological Seminary and in the Ternopil diocese. During the searches, numerous evidences of pro-Russian propaganda and possible cooperation of representatives of the UOC-MP with Russia were revealed. President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the National Security and Defense Council is asking to ban the activities of the UOC-MP in Ukraine.
