More than a thousand medical institutions were destroyed by the Russian invaders on the territory of Ukraine.
It is now difficult to assess the total damage to Ukrainian medicine due to the Russian invasion, especially since the fighting continues, and the enemy is hitting, among other things, hospitals and paramedical stations. As reported on the official website of the department on Friday, December 9, the restoration of the industry will cost $ 1 billion.
The Ministry of Health emphasized that these are preliminary estimates and they can name the exact amount needed to restore hospitals and medical infrastructure later.
“During the war, the Russians have already destroyed 144 medical institutions and damaged more than 1,000. Most of the losses were recorded in Donetsk, Kharkov, Kherson, Nikolaev and Kyiv regions. To restore medical facilities destroyed by Russia, Ukraine needs at least $1 billion. Such an amount was needed to rebuild the hospitals and dispensaries to the state they were in before the war. At least 14 billion euros are needed to build modern facilities,” said Deputy Minister of Health Oleksiy Yaremenko.
According to a representative of the Ministry of Health, the Ukrainian medical system is preparing for the worst case scenario related to Russian shelling – a complete blackout. For this, medical institutions are gradually provided with power generators, satellite communications and necessary supplies of fuel and water. Yaremenko noted that more than 3,000 generators and more than 1,000 Starlink stations are currently operating in Ukrainian hospitals.
It should be noted that on the morning of December 9, Russian troops opened fire on a medical facility in Kherson.
Earlier, Lyashko said that hospitals should be prepared for a complete blackout.
