The talks were attended by Slovakia’s ministers of foreign and European affairs, defense and economy.
President Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting with the Slovak government delegation. This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian leader on Thursday, December 8.
It is indicated that the talks were attended by the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia Rastislav Kacher, Minister of Defense Jaroslav Nagy and Minister of Economy Karel Girman.
Zelensky thanked the ministers for Ukraine’s strong support from Slovakia since the early days of Russia’s massive invasion. He praised the efforts of the President and the Government of the country to consolidate international support for Ukraine, as well as all possible help to Ukrainians who came to Slovakia in search of asylum from the war.
“We are grateful for the support of our people. We will never forget about it,” Zelensky said.
He briefed Slovak officials on the impact of Russia’s massive missile attacks on civilian energy infrastructure and on Ukraine’s need for assistance to restore power supplies.
Zelensky noted that Ukraine expects the recognition of the Russian Federation as a state sponsor of terrorism by EU member states at the national level, as the European Parliament recently did. The importance of the early approval of the ninth package of EU sanctions against Russia was also noted.
Directions for further cooperation with Slovakia were discussed to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities, train Ukrainian military personnel and support the demining of unoccupied territories.
Separately, Zelensky thanked Slovakia for actively supporting our country’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
“We are counting on Bratislava’s help in the earliest possible acquisition of Ukraine’s full membership in the EU,” the president said.
Recall that the Slovak government approved a new package of military aid to Ukraine. This includes ammunition, including large calibers, warm military clothing and other equipment.
