London, Paris and Berlin sent a letter to the UN Secretary General with a request to inform about plans to send experts to Ukraine.
Western countries have stepped up pressure on the UN to send experts to Ukraine to investigate downed Iranian drones being used by Russia. This was reported by Reuters on December 8.
The supply of Iranian-made drones to Russia violates a 2015 UN Security Council resolution securing nuclear deals with Iran, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the United States and Ukraine.
This week, London, Paris and Berlin wrote to UN Secretary-General António Guterres asking for an update on plans to send UN experts to Ukraine to investigate the facts about the drones.
At the same time, Russia also wrote twice to Guterres, accusing the three countries of violating the UN Charter. Moscow says the secretary general has no mandate to send experts to Ukraine to investigate the source of the drones.
The agency recalled that Iran denies supplying drones to Moscow, and Russia denies that its forces used Iranian drones to attack Ukraine.
“The Secretariat is reviewing the available information. Any findings will be reported to the Security Council in due course,” Guterres said in a report to the Security Council, seen by Reuters.
When asked if a visit by UN experts to Ukraine was planned, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric declined to comment.
It was previously reported that the Russian Federation, after a three-week pause, resumed attacks on Ukraine with Shahed-136/131 kamikaze drones.
