The National Bank of Ukraine warned citizens that in the Netherlands, Belgium and Latvia on December 9, programs for the exchange of the hryvnia to the euro were completed. This was announced on Wednesday, December 7, in a press release from the NBU.
Programs for the exchange of the hryvnia for the euro in these countries were launched on the basis of the relevant agreements concluded between the National Bank of Ukraine and the Central Bank of the Netherlands, the National Bank of Belgium and the Bank of Latvia.
“Friday, December 9, will be the last day when it will be possible to exchange money,” the regulator warned.
They explained that exchange programs are being terminated due to a decrease in the number and value of such exchange transactions compared to the start of the exchange.
At the same time, the National Bank said that the exchange programs made it possible for Ukrainians, who were forced to leave Ukraine because of the war, to exchange their Hryvnia for cash.
“In general, on December 6, 2022, during the period of the agreements, Ukrainians exchanged euros: in the Netherlands – almost 29.7 million hryvnias, in Belgium – almost 10.0 million hryvnias, in Latvia – 3.0 million hryvnias,” said of the source. NBU.
It should be noted that in the interbank market last week there was a significant increase in demand for foreign currency on the part of bank customers, which exceeded the increase in supply.
