Norway became the first country outside the EU to make a financial contribution to the European Peace Fund.
The European Union and Norway on Tuesday signed an administrative agreement for the final voluntary financial contribution to the European Union Military Assistance Mission in Support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine) for 2023. European Truth reported this in connection with the press service of the Council of the EU.
As part of the agreement, Norway transfers 150 million Norwegian kroner (approximately 14.5 million euros) to the European Peace Fund for the operation of the mission, a decision which the Norwegian government announced on 31 October.
“Today’s signing will formalize this decision and ensure the entry into force of the agreement and Norway’s effective contribution to the training and equipping of the Ukrainian Armed Forces within the framework of the EU Military Assistance Mission,” the report said.
The Council of the EU stressed that Norway became the first country outside the EU to make a financial contribution to the European Peace Fund, “which is a confirmation of Norway’s close cooperation with the EU in matters of security and defense, as well as its strong support. for Ukraine in defense of independence and sovereignty.”

“Norway’s financial support for the EU mission to provide military assistance to Ukraine will give additional impetus to the training and equipping of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which continue their courageous resistance to Russian aggression,” the diplomat of EU Josep Borrell.
Earlier, he announced that 24 countries of the European Union have already submitted their proposals for participation in a new mission to train the Ukrainian military.
The new European Union training mission for the military Armed Forces of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine) has reached full operational readiness. The mandate of the mission will initially last two years, with a financial benchmark for total expenditures for this period of EUR 106.7 million.
The Mission will ensure coordination of bilateral activities of Member States in support of Ukraine, as well as other international partners, and will be open to the participation of third states.
Earlier, Norway provided five military ambulance buses to Ukraine.
