The drugs were transported in vans modeled after a “solidarity caravan,” Spanish law enforcement officials said.
In Spain, law enforcement officials detained 30 people on charges of smuggling cannabis disguised as humanitarian aid to Ukraine. This was announced yesterday by the Spanish Civil Guard.
The detentions are said to have taken place in the southern autonomous community of Andalusia. In the Costa del Sol region, a group of Ukrainians was identified who collected cannabis from plantations and stored it in an apartment in the city of Mijas, near Malaga.
The drugs came from all over the southern region, packed in cardboard boxes and transported in vans impersonating a “solidarity caravan” in an attempt to evade police and border control.
During the investigation, two vans registered in Ukraine were found, in which there were 109 kilograms of marijuana. Four people were detained at the scene.
In total, during the raids in the province of Malaga and the southern cities of Granada, Cordoba and Seville, the police seized about 800 thousand euros, several pistols and 2,500 cannabis plants. The detainees also included Spaniards, Germans and Moroccans.
