Ukrainian refugees are allowed to stay in the UK for three years, work and have access to government services.
Many Ukrainian refugees in the UK have been displaced. Now their number has risen to 30% of the total number of Ukrainians who have come to Britain since the start of the war. On Monday, December 5, The Times wrote.
As the newspaper notes, a sharp increase in the number of Ukrainians who lost their homes occurred last month.
“This is due to the fact that host families have stopped supporting those fleeing the war,” the publication explained.
They said that as part of the House for Ukraine program, British families have promised to provide support to Ukrainians for at least six months in exchange for state support in the amount of 350 pounds sterling per month. However, after this period, the number of Ukrainian families seeking emergency housing increased significantly.
“More than 2,000 families with children and 900 people are now officially homeless, which is 800 more than last month,” the newspaper said.
Housing Secretary Michael Gove is in talks with the Treasury about doubling payments to family hosts, according to a government source. In his opinion, it costs less than finding new housing for refugees.
Data released by the Office for National Statistics in November showed that Ukrainians are having trouble renting because they don’t have a guarantor or referrals. Some have changed addresses since arriving in the country because of “relationship difficulties” with their sponsor.
Around 144,600 people arrived in the UK on a Ukrainian visa on November 14, according to government figures. More than 105,000 people came under the House for Ukraine program.
Recall that in the Czech Republic, the government approved the possibility of extending temporary protection visas for Ukrainian refugees until the end of March 2024. Currently, this period is limited to March 2023.
