He said the European Commission would increase its efforts with regional groups of EU countries that could provide the most urgent assistance to their neighbors. This will help reduce the impact of possible gas supply disruptions. Work will also continue on guaranteeing supplies and accumulating adequate gas reserves in the medium term.
According to Von der Leyen, the European Commission’s RePowerEU plan to strengthen the EU’s energy security will help to significantly reduce reliance on Russia’s fossil resources this year. U.S. LNG imports will increase, and work is underway with Member States to find alternative gas suppliers.
“In the long run, RePowerEU will also help us move towards a more reliable, secure and sustainable energy supply. We will present our plans to accelerate the green transition by mid -May. Every euro we invest in renewables energy and energy efficiency are the key to our energy independence in the future, ”said the head of the European Commission.
He also said the EC welcomes Paris ’plan to meet EU energy ministers soon.
