Putin tried to wipe Ukraine off the map, erase its identity, return it to Russia, but failed.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken called Russia’s efforts to disable electricity and infrastructure in Ukraine barbaric, Politico wrote.
Blinken said Russian President Vladimir Putin has adopted a scorched-earth tactic because his military has failed to achieve its early goals in the war against Ukraine.
“Putin tried to erase Ukraine from the map, erase its identity, return it to Russia. It failed. Then he started seizing lands in the east and south of Ukraine. It failed because the Ukrainian military pushed and returned a lot of territory that they had seized to Putin,” Blinken said.
“He is trying to use winter as a weapon, turn off the lights, turn off the heat, plunge the Ukrainian people into darkness and cold at the very time when the winter months arrive. This is truly barbaric,” he added.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has accused Russia of deliberate brutality in the war against Ukraine, saying Moscow is deliberately targeting civilians.
“With deliberate brutality, Russia is targeting civilians and civilian objects. As a result of Russia’s attacks, children have died, schools and hospitals have been destroyed,” Austin said.
It can be recalled that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba discussed the provision of air defense assets in Kyiv.
