The French President believes that Western countries should provide a “guarantee” to the Kremlin in the event of negotiations.
The West must consider how to meet Russia’s need for security guarantees if President Vladimir Putin agrees to talk to end the war in Ukraine. This is what French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview with the French TV channel TF1.
Europe must prepare the future security architecture, he believes.
“This means that one of the important issues that we must address – as President Putin always says – is the fear that NATO is approaching its doors and the deployment of weapons that could threaten Russia,” said the French leader.
According to him, Western countries should “give guarantees to Russia the day it returns to the negotiating table.”
Note that Russia and the United States have expressed their openness to negotiations.
However, US President Joseph Biden said he would only talk to Putin if the Kremlin leader showed his interest in ending the war.
Ukraine has said that negotiations are possible only on the condition that Russia stops attacking and withdraws its troops.
Correspondent.net previously reported that Biden will receive Emmanuel Macron on a state visit this week.
