US President Joe Biden said on Thursday that he was ready to talk with his Russian counterpart. Vladimir Putinbut only to end the war in Ukraine.
“I am ready to talk to him if he decides that he is ready to look for ways to end the war,” he said at a White House press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron.
Biden said that the conversation with Putin hypothetically, this will happen in consultations with France and the rest of its NATO allies. But so far, he pointed out, the Russian leader has shown no signs of facilitating the exchange. “At the same time, I think it is absolutely decisive, as Macron said, that we support the Ukrainian people,” he added.
The US President emphasized that Putin was wrong in all his calculations made so far, and that he thought he would be “greeted with open arms” by the Russian-speaking parts of Ukraine.
“The question is, how are you going to extricate yourself from the circumstances you got yourself into? I’m ready if you want to talk,” he added like this. Macron emphasized that it was Putin who wanted to start a war in February and that it was “legal” that the Ukrainian leader, Vladimir Zelenskyset preconditions.
“We will never call on the Ukrainians to reach a compromise that is unacceptable to them (…), because this will never lead to a lasting peace. If we want a lasting peace, we must respect that the Ukrainians determine the moment and conditions. in which they will negotiate about its territory and its future,” said the French President.
Their meeting, according to Biden, served as confirmation that France and the United States, along with their European allies, the European Union and the G7, oppose “Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine.”

The US president admitted that he never thought the conflict would be so violent, but made it clear that Putin would not win.
“He thinks he can break the will of all who oppose his imperialist ambitions by attacking Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure, shutting off energy supplies in Europe, driving up prices, exacerbating the food crisis. (…) But he will not succeed,” he stressed.
They also reaffirmed their firm determination to hold Russia accountable for well-documented atrocities and war crimes and continue to coordinate with other allies to send aid to Ukraine.
Russia will not accept any trial
War crimes of the Russian Army in Ukraine they will not have legitimacy and will not be accepted by Russia, a Kremlin spokesman said today, Dmitry Peskov.
“As for attempts to create some kind of courts, they will not have any legitimacy, we will not accept them and condemn them,” he said at his daily press conference.
sands He stressed the importance of adding to these investigations “data on crimes committed by the regime since 2014, to which, unfortunately, we do not see a critical reaction from the West.”
