The head of government said Austria was strictly following the joint EU sanctions agreement.
Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer has issued a denial on information that Austria has allegedly agreed to pay for Russian gas in rubles. On Wednesday, April 27, Nehammer wrote about it on Twitter.
According to him, OMV will continue to pay for gas supplies from Russia in euros, as Austria strictly adheres to the jointly agreed EU sanctions.
Nehammer also called the reports “Russian propaganda” about Austria’s alleged readiness to switch to the ruble in negotiations with Russia. This information was disseminated by the Russian Air Force service in connection with Nehammer’s own words.
Earlier in the morning, Russian Gazprom announced the cessation of gas supplies to Bulgaria and Poland, which refused to pay in rubles. In connection with this, Poland announced that it will no longer buy gas from the Russian Federation and is preparing for it for six years.
