Germany has currently “not completed a dialogue” with Poland on the supply of air defense systems, the German chancellor said.
Germany and Poland continue consultations on the deployment of Patriot air defense systems, which are in service with Germany, on the territory of the Polish state. This is what German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said at a joint press conference in Berlin with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Thursday, December 1.
“We have not yet completed a dialogue with Poland on this issue,” he said.
The Secretary General of the Alliance, in his speech, also urged not to confuse the proposal for a Patriot for Poland with the initiatives of the Alliance countries for the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
“We have to consider the issue of the proposal made by Poland separately from the topic of aid to Ukraine,” he said.
As you know, Berlin offered Warsaw to strengthen its air defense systems with the Patriot air defense system. However, Poland insisted on the transfer of these anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine.
In addition, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak states that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to serve the Patriot itself, without the help of NATO.
He also noted that the Ukrainian military is now being trained to use Western weapons, “including complex ones like HIMARS launchers or the NASAMS system.” Therefore, the arguments about the need to train military personnel in the maintenance of these air defense systems are untenable.
