Arguments about the need for maintenance personnel of these air defense systems cannot be proven, Mariusz Blaszczak believes.
Germany offered eight Patriot launchers to Poland. Warsaw insists on the transfer of these air defense systems to Ukraine, they are confident that the Ukrainian military will be able to serve them on their own without NATO intervention. This is what Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said, according to the Polish edition Do Rzeczy on Thursday, December 1.
Patriot would work best in the western regions of Ukraine, the Polish official said, adding that such a recommendation was given to him by the officers of Poland’s anti-missile and anti-aircraft forces.
“It protects the border of Poland and at the same time the territory of Ukraine from missiles that pose a potential threat. Thanks to the effective protection of critical infrastructure of Ukraine, citizens of Ukraine will not be forced to leave their homes ,” he says.
According to him, the Ukrainian military will service these systems itself, Poland did not offer Germany to transfer equipment with German service personnel.
“I also do not understand the argument that is often made about the need for training – all the time, the supporting countries train the Ukrainians in the use of many modern weapons systems, including such complex ones HIMARS launcher or the NASAMS system,” Blashchak emphasized.
The minister believes that the war will not end quickly, therefore, while offering support to Ukraine, the allies should think about the prospect of a distant future.
“Each unit of modern weapons brings the Ukrainians closer to victory. Since HIMARS and NASAMS have already been transferred, the argument that the Patriot can only be deployed on NATO territory. German politicians also support the initiative. The Ukraine responded positively, they knew more about the need for defense and repeatedly asked for the Patriot,” summed up the head of the Polish Ministry of Defense.
As we wrote earlier, German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht promised to submit to the German government a proposal to deploy Patriot air defense systems on the territory of Ukraine.
