The alliance and allies are not a party to the conflict, but help the state, which has the right to defend itself.
The main signal of the meeting of foreign ministers of NATO member countries in Romania is that assistance to Ukraine will be provided if necessary. This was announced on November 29 by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
“Our message from Bucharest is that NATO will continue to support Ukraine as long as necessary. We will not back down,” he stressed at a conference organized by the Aspen Marshall Fund – GMF Bucharest Forum.
Stoltenberg recalled that NATO and allies are not a party to the conflict, but provide support to Ukraine, as it is a state with the right to self-defense, prescribed in the UN Charter.
“We are seeing wave after wave of targeted missile attacks (by the Russian Federation) on cities and civilian infrastructure hitting residential buildings and hospitals. This is terrible for Ukraine ,” the Secretary said.
He admitted that this is also a difficult time for Europe and many countries in the world.
“We are indeed paying the price for Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. But the price we are paying is measured in money, while the Ukrainians are paying with their blood. And if we let (Russian President Vladimir) Putin win, we will all pay a higher price “for many years to come,” Stoltenberg said.
The head of the alliance added that “most wars end at the negotiating table”, but this “is inevitably related to what happens on the battlefield.”
“Therefore, in order to create the conditions for a lasting peace that ensures the supremacy of Ukraine as an independent sovereign state, we must continue to provide military support,” he concluded.
Recall that on November 23, Russian troops carried out the seventh massive missile attack, which led to blackouts throughout Ukraine, as well as in Moldova.
