Russia is creating new threats that could surpass even the Chernobyl disaster, the Ukrainian leader said.

President Volodymyr Zelensky, in a video message following the 62 days of the war, warned the world of the Chernobyl accident and warned of a greater threat from Russia. The corresponding video was released on the night of Tuesday, April 26th.

“Today, Russia has launched three missiles against Ukraine in such a way that they fly directly over the blocks of our nuclear power plant: the Zaporozhye, Khmelnytsky and South Ukrainian nuclear power plants,” the head of state said.

He noted that only thanks to the professionalism and honesty of the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, it is possible to save Ukraine and Europe from a new catastrophe during the occupation of the plant. The same is now being done by specialists in Zaporizhzhya NPP, which was taken by the occupiers.

“After all that Russia’s military has done in the Chernobyl zone and at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, no one in the world will feel safe. Global control over Russia’s nuclear facilities and nuclear technologies is necessary,” the president urged. .

At the same time, he stressed that all the risks created by Russia and the means of possible influence on the situation in the nuclear industry, the leadership of Ukraine spoke with IAEA Director Mariano Grossi during his visit to Kyiv.

Recall that now marks 36 years since the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
