Asylum seekers from Russia have ended up in immigration jail more often than migrants from other countries in recent months.
Thousands of Russian men who try to avoid mobilization and seek asylum in the US end up in immigration detention and have little chance of getting it. This was stated in the publication of the New York Times.
“Many asylum seekers are allowed to enter the country and are allowed to prove their cases in court. But thousands of Russians are sent to detention centers where it is difficult to get lawyers and collect evidence for the prosecution Russia, and the chances of getting asylum are very poor,” the publication stated.
The Immigration Service does not release statistics on the nationality of migrants held behind bars. However, lawyers who regularly work with them say that asylum seekers from Russia have been detained more often than migrants from other countries in recent months, sometimes offered bail that more than $30,000.
It was noted that some fugitives were kept in relatively harsh prison conditions for several months.
