Hundreds of thousands of people are experiencing lack of heat, water and electricity. The UN hopes that, with the support of the authorities, they will meet the basic needs of the inhabitants of Kherson.
The humanitarian situation in Nikolaev and Kherson is critical. This is what UN representatives who visited the region said, reports Monday, November 28, CNN.
So, according to UN representative Stefan Dujarric, in Nikolaev alone, almost a quarter of a million people experience a lack of heat, water and electricity.
“Some heating points have already been installed in Nikolaev to help people who cannot heat their homes. Humanitarian workers are providing materials and generators to keep these places functioning,” said Dujarric.
The UN hopes that, with the support of the authorities, they will be able to meet the basic needs of Kherson residents if they can maintain the same level of aid sent over the past two weeks.
“However, the situation with water, heating and electricity remains difficult, although the electricity supply is gradually being restored,” he added.
Donors have reportedly given $3.1 billion in humanitarian aid through the UN this year, but Dujarric said continued funding is important, especially during the winter months.
“We remain concerned about the situation of civilians in Ukraine, especially with the onset of winter. We are working to support people with services and supplies to ensure they are protected and warm in the harsh this month,” he added.
Kherson OVA reported that a UN delegation visited Kherson last weekend. In particular, the permanent coordinator of the UN system in Ukraine Denise Brown and the head of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Sarah Helding came to the city.
Residents of the Kherson region were provided with long-term storage products, bread, water, hygiene products, medicines and other necessary items. Generators are provided for establishments and institutions.
We will remind, on Monday it was reported that the attackers disrupted the supply of drinking water to Nikolaev.
The head of the OVA said what they had done for the residents of the Kherson region in one day
