Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s party asked the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) on Tuesday (November 22nd) to cancel more than 280,000 electronic ballots, arguing that: “glitches” would prevent his re-election against Lula. “We demand to invalidate the votes of electronic ballot boxes, for which insurmountable malfunctions have been revealed, and to draw legal consequences on the results of the second round”on October 30, can be read in the complaint submitted by the Liberal Party (LAK).
The “transparency” of the ballot was called into question
At the end of the legislative elections, this organization, which received the largest number of deputies and senators, believes that “malfunctioning” urn of five models “puts into doubt the transparency of the electoral process”. PL claims that these dysfunctions were revealed in an audit report commissioned by the party. According to a PL lawyer, more than 280,000 electronic ballot boxes used during the voting will be one of these five models. According to the LH calculation, the cancellation of votes from these ballot boxes will win Jair Bolsonaro with 51.05% of the votes, practically the opposite of the official result (50.9% for Lula, 49.1% for the outgoing president).
TSE President Alexandre de Moraes responded to the complaint, explaining that these ballot box models were used not only in the second round, but also in the first, on October 2. Therefore, he asks for a complaint “concerns the two towers”, under penalty of rejection without analysis. But the cancellation of a part of the votes received on October 2 will also affect the legislative elections that took place on the same day, in the same ballot boxes. This may jeopardize the election of many deputies of the Republic of Armenia.
Jair Bolsonaro has virtually disappeared from public life for more than three weeks after announcing his defeat against former left-wing president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (2003-2010). He came out of silence only two days later, not clearly admitting his defeat and bringing forward. “sense of injustice” of his supporters, who demonstrated in front of the barracks, demanding military intervention.
