Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has stopped buying Russian nuclear fuel based on its own reserves.

Ukraine has sufficient reserves of nuclear fuel. They are expected to last two years. This was announced on Sunday, November 27, by the President of NAEK Energoatom Petr Kotin on the air of the United News marathon.

At the same time, he said that Ukraine also plans to launch its own production.

“We are working with Westinghouse to create a line for the production of our own fuel, based on their technologies. We have already produced fuel cartridge heads and shanks licensed by an American company. That means we will make half of ourselves, and the other half will be provided by Westinghouse,” Kotin said.

He noted that since the beginning of the full invasion, Ukraine has stopped buying Russian nuclear fuel based on its own reserves.

“Currently, Energoatom plans to transfer all power units of Ukrainian nuclear power plants, which are on Russian fuel, to Westinghouse fuel,” explained the head of Energoatom.

The previous day, Energoatom reported that after a blackout as a result of a Russian missile attack, the Zaporozhye NPP received power for its own needs from the Ukrainian energy system.
