Georgia is in first place in terms of the volume of humanitarian aid provided to Ukraine, Tbilisi said.
Georgia Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze has urged Kyiv to return the ambassador to Tbilisi and not ask for the imposition of sanctions against the Russian Federation. On Monday, April 25, Echo of the Caucasus wrote.
At the same time, he said that Georgia is doing its best “to show its support to the Ukrainian government and to Ukrainian society.”
Thus, Burchuladze reacted to President Volodymyr Zelensky’s recent statement that he did not understand Georgia’s leadership, which refused to impose economic sanctions against Russia.
The Minister noted that Georgia is in the first place in terms of humanitarian aid provided to Ukraine.
“The attitude of Georgian society towards Ukrainians is not very important. In my opinion, there is no alternative country where Ukrainian citizens are treated the way we do. Bringing back the ambassador, of course, is a mistake. The sooner we forget. The grievances we have will build our countries faster and peace will come, ”Burchuladze said.
He also noted that “the words that Georgia is not participating in the sanctions are incorrect.” He stressed that “Georgia has joined in all the critical sanctions – the UN, the Council of Europe and others.” In turn, in his opinion, “it would be foolish to join those sanctions that would not affect the aggressor, but would only torture the population of Georgia.”
Recall that two-thirds of Georgians believe that the country should introduce a visa regime for citizens of the Russian Federation.
