The money will go to basic public services, including salaries for doctors and teachers, as well as social assistance for the elderly.
The United States is giving Ukraine an additional $4.5 billion in direct budget support. This was stated in a statement by US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.
“Today, the United States continues to uphold its unwavering commitment to Ukraine by mobilizing an additional $4.5 billion in direct budget support grants,” the statement said.
The funds will begin disbursing in the coming weeks and will help the Ukrainian government support essential public services, including salaries for hospital workers, civil servants and teachers, as well as social assistance for to the elderly and weak.
“Along with our safe assistance and the undying courage of the Ukrainian people, these funds are a critical tool in Ukraine’s opposition to Putin’s unprovoked aggression,” the US Treasury said.
These payments will bring total direct US budget support to Ukraine to $13 billion, all in the form of grants.
It was previously reported that the United States has supplied Ukraine with more than 88 thousand tons of weapons and military equipment for a total of $21.5 billion since the end of February this year.
