COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – Police in Colorado say five people are dead and 18 injured in a shooting at a nightclub.
Colorado Springs Police Department Lt. Pamela Castro said police received a report of a shooting at Club Q at 11:57 p.m.
Castro said it is suspected he was injured and is being treated. He said it was not immediately clear if he was shot by officers. He said the FBI was on the scene to assist in the case.
The police department tweeted that it has scheduled a press conference for 8 a.m. at its operations center.
Club Q is a gay and lesbian nightclub that features a “Drag Diva Drag Show” on Saturdays, according to its website.
“The Q Club is devastated by the senseless attack on our community,” the club posted on its Facebook page. He said his prayers were with the victims and families and “Thanks to the quick reactions of the heroic customers who subdued the gunman and put an end to this heinous attack.”
A motive for the shooting was not immediately known, but it brought to mind the 2016 massacre at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, which killed 49 people. And it happened in a state that has seen several high-profile mass killings, including at Columbine High School, a movie theater in a Denver suburb in 2012 and a Boulder supermarket last year.
