Telecommunications equipment is on the sanctions list, so Russia cannot install new base stations.
In Russia, due to the cessation of supplies of network equipment, a shortage of frequencies for mobile Internet began. This will lead to a gradual decrease in its speed, according to Friday, November 18, the Russian edition of Izvestia.
So, among the sanctions imposed against Russia, there is a ban on providing telecommunications equipment to the country. Therefore, if earlier companies solved the problem of frequency shortages by installing additional base stations, now they do not have such an opportunity. So the traffic grows, but the network bandwidth does not.
According to the publication, from November 2021 to mid-March 2022, the average mobile Internet speed in Russia dropped from 21.7 Mbps to around 21 Mbps. And by the end of 2022, it can drop by 1 Mbps – up to 20 Mbps.
It will be recalled that in June, the media reported the closing of Huawei stores in Russia. One of the world’s largest telecommunications companies, the Chinese Huawei has begun to close its official outlets in Russia.
Before that, Finnish Nokia stopped its activities in Russia. From the first days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, it became clear to the management of the telecommunications company that further presence in the Russian Federation was impossible.
