Every day we see footage of the most brutal crimes against the civilian population of Ukraine, said German Interior Minister Feser. At the G7 conference, he called on those responsible for war crimes to be brought to justice.
The interior ministers of the seven leading industrialized countries of the West (G7) called on Russia to immediately stop the missile attack on Ukraine and supported demands for those responsible to be held accountable.
“As before, the footage of the most heinous crimes against the civilian population and the destruction of civilian infrastructure in Ukraine comes to us every day. It must stop, Putin must end this brutal war, ” said German Interior Minister Nancy Feather at the end of the conference of interior ministers of the G7 countries at the Eberbach Monastery in the federal state of Hesse on Friday 18 November.
According to Feather, during the meeting the ministers “thoroughly discussed how to speed up the investigation of war crimes and crimes against humanity so that war criminals will one day have to answer in the courts.” Conference participants also agreed to strengthen support for police and justice authorities in Ukraine.
Refugees arriving in Germany from Ukraine are asked to fill out a questionnaire to see if they have any knowledge of war crimes in Ukraine, Feser said. This will help gather evidence for further prosecution of war criminals, he explained.
Fight propaganda and disinformation
The interior ministers of the G7 countries also agreed to step up their joint fight against Russian propaganda and disinformation.
“Russia is trying to sow uncertainty, undermine trust in state institutions and divide our society with the help of lies. We condemn this in the strongest possible way,” emphasized Nancy Feather.
He noted that the G7 countries will strengthen cooperation in identifying disinformation networks.
“We agreed to exchange relevant information at earlier stages and in a more complete way,” the minister said.
At the conference in the Eberbach monastery, it was also decided to strengthen the cooperation of the G7 countries in the fight against terrorism, extremism, organized crime and sexual exploitation of children.
