1/ The end of historical neutralities
It took less than three months for Sweden and Finland to respond “special military operation”. It was launched by Moscow in Ukraine. Fearing for their security and integrity, the two Nordic countries officially submitted their candidacy for NATO on May 15, 2022. A decision that ends more than two centuries of neutrality of the Swedish kingdom. It was sought out and chosen in 1812 by Marshal of the Empire Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte, who became King of Sweden and Norway. The brother of General Bonaparte’s former comrade-in-arms, the unlikely heir to a long-disputing and warring power, wanted to avoid being picked by his new homeland during the Napoleonic Wars. What was done was then repeated in the two world conflicts of XXe century. The stuff in Finland is completely different. its neutrality is newer and dictated by necessity. Since 1917, the independent Republic of Finland had two conflicts with the USSR: in 1939-1940 and in 1941-1945.
