Two days before the visit to Moscow, António Guterres spoke with a Ukrainian friend, Boris Johnson.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and UN Secretary-General António Guterres held talks on Sunday, April 24. This was reported in the office of the head of government.
The topic of conversation was the war in Ukraine unleashed by Russia. Thus, Johnson called the actions of Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Ukraine “sweet and outright aggression” with devastating consequences for the Ukrainian people.
The parties expressed common concern about attacks in areas besieged by Russian forces such as Mariupol and Kherson, and also discussed the need to ensure a ceasefire, advance humanitarian efforts and allow civilians to leave.
“The Prime Minister clarified the importance of global solidarity in Ukraine, as the UK continues to work with international partners to support Ukraine in its defense,” the press service concluded.
On April 26, Guterres will visit Moscow, where he will meet with Putin. Two days later, he will go on a visit to Kyiv.
