The process of collecting information about the damage has already been started by the Ukrainian government based on the Diya portal. Next year, the Ministry of Justice will create a registry.
The Ministry of Justice should conclude next year the international agreement on reparations and create a register of damage caused by the Russian military aggression. This is what Deputy Minister of Justice Irina Mudraya said in an interview with Forbes, published on Wednesday night, November 16.
“The international agreement is the main document that standardizes the process of transferring reparations to the Russian Federation,” the official said.
According to him, the document contains criteria for applicants for compensation and will determine the payment mechanism. It is expected that all G7 countries will join the agreement, since they have the largest number of frozen Russian assets.
“After signing the agreement, it must be ratified by all participating countries. To do this, it will be necessary to make changes to the law. While Canada has already taken such a step, there are legislative initiatives in the US Congress. A separate that The directive is being prepared by the EU,” emphasizes the deputy minister.
The register of losses, which is being prepared by the Ministry of Justice together with European partners, will contain data on the damage caused by Russia: damage to Ukrainian citizens (in particular, sexual crimes), business, infrastructure of the country , ecology, municipality and the state as a whole.
The process of collecting information about the damage has already been started by the Ukrainian government based on the Diya portal. Now the Ministry of Justice is negotiating with the Ministry of Digital Transformation so that this information can be immediately transferred to the international register after its creation.
The Ministry of Justice advises citizens, businesses and municipalities to collect as much evidence as possible, record and document the damage. It is based on these data that compensation will be paid.
Recall that in August it was reported that the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine is creating a register of properties damaged and destroyed during the military invasion of the Russian Federation.
