The threats arose in response to the adoption of a UN resolution on compensation for damage to Ukraine related to Russia’s aggression.
The Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, threatened the West with confiscating the assets of foreign private investors in response to the adoption of a UN resolution on compensation for damage in Ukraine related to the Russian invasion.
“If, on the basis of a decision of the UN General Assembly, absorbed from a known place by enemy countries, national actions are adopted on the theft of Russian property, we have no choice,” Medvedev wrote.
Medvedev claimed that Russia would permanently seize the money and property of private investors from such countries, “although they will not be held accountable for the follies of their governments.”
“Foreign loans, funds frozen in accounts and other important things in our country, by a happy coincidence, more than $ 300 billion. Enough to pay for what was stolen from Russia,” he stressed.
He ignored the November 15 mass missile attacks on Ukrainian cities.
“All in all, it’s sad: the UN made lawless decisions that you just turn off the light. And the light is off. The next day,” Medvedev said cynically.
Remember, on November 14, the UN General Assembly supported a resolution proposing to introduce a mechanism for paying damages to Ukraine as a result of the war unleashed by Russia. The document was supported by 94 countries, abstained – 74, against – 13.
After that, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia has to pay reparations for the war in Ukraine – this is now part of the international legal reality.
Earlier, Medvedev said Russia was launching missile strikes on Ukraine to “overthrow its political regime.”
