At Ukraine’s request, international experts will assess the safety of four nuclear power plants.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in the coming weeks, at the request of Ukraine, will send missions to the Rivne, Khmelnitsky and South Ukrainian nuclear power plants, as well as to the site of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. This is what the director general of the organization, Rafael Grossi, said, according to the IAEA website.
“At the request of Ukraine, an agreement was reached between the government and the IAEA on sending groups of experts from the agency on nuclear and physical nuclear safety to the South Ukrainian, Khmelnitsky and Rivne nuclear power plants (NPPs).”
It was noted that the IAEA will also send its third specialized mission to Chernobyl.
Each mission will last about a week, Grossi said, adding that others could follow if needed.
Recall, on November 3, Energoatom reported that the damage to the last two high-voltage communication lines of the temporarily occupied Zaporozhye NPP and the de-energization of the plant was an attempt to reconnect it to the Russian energy system. Later, the IAEA reported that the Zaporizhzhya NPP was connected to Ukraine’s energy system.
