The UN adopted a resolution on the creation of an international compensation mechanism that would make it possible to compensate for all the damage caused by the Russian war, and at the expense of Russian properties.
Russia has to pay reparations for the war in Ukraine, and this is now part of the international legal reality. This is what President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his speech on Monday evening, November 14.
He noted that the UN has adopted an important resolution – on the creation of an international compensation mechanism that will make it possible to compensate for all the damage caused by the Russian war, and at the expense of Russian properties.
“The reparations that Russia has to pay for what they did are now part of the international legal reality,” Zelensky said.
He added that the second resolution is currently being prepared – on the creation of a special tribunal on the crime of aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
Zelensky also spoke about his trip to liberated Kherson, where he presented awards to the Ukrainian military. He promised to do everything possible to restore normal living conditions for people in Kherson and Nikolaev regions.
“It is obvious to everyone what Ukraine is, what the presence of our flag is. When there is a Ukrainian flag, there is civilization, there is freedom. There is social security. There is infrastructure. There is security. take care of the people. There is everything that is lost and what is destroyed when an invader comes. Before the winter, the Russian invaders completely destroyed all the critical infrastructure for the people. Actually all the important facilities in the city and the region were mined,” said Zelensky .
The head of state also spoke about the upcoming address to the participants of the G20 summit, which Zelensky already called the G19, emphasizing the need to exclude the Russian Federation.
“In a few hours, I will talk about this in my address to the participants of the G19 summit in Indonesia. This is an association of very influential states. And now, on the eve of the summit, important statements have been made. In in particular, it is important that the United States and China jointly noted the non-acceptance of any threat to use nuclear weapons. Everyone understands to whom these words are addressed,” said Zelensky.
He also thanked Canada and the United States for the new sanctions against the Russian Federation.
As reported, on Monday, UN member states recognized the need to create, in cooperation with Ukraine, an international mechanism to compensate for the damages caused by the Russian aggression.
