Society has come a long way in the fight against COVID and the decrease in mortality is cause for optimism.
The number of deaths from the coronavirus has dropped by nearly 90% since the beginning of the year. This was announced on Wednesday, November 9, by the head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus, AP reports.
“Last week, the WHO was notified of more than 9.4 thousand deaths from COVID-19, which is almost 90% less than in February this year, when the number of deaths per week exceeded 75 thousand,” said Ghebreyesus.
According to Ghebreyesus, the reduction in deaths from the coronavirus is a reason for optimism.
At the same time, the head of the WHO pointed out the remaining gaps in vaccination and the constant spread of new strains of the coronavirus that cause concern.
“Immunization gaps remain significant and the continued proliferation of new options is worrisome,” the WHO director said. He also encouraged everyone to get re-vaccinated against the coronavirus.
It will be remembered that the coronavirus pandemic was declared in March 2020. Due to the pandemic, the borders between states were closed for a long time, which worsened the economic situation in the world.
Recall that at the end of October, Ukraine received 2.3 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
We add that in the Kirovograd region one child died from the coronavirus.
