USA celebrate on Tuesday elections mid-term – as the elections held two years after the presidential election are known – the results of which turned out to be closer than expected, and still have several unknowns.
This is what is known and what is not yet known at the moment:
Camera control low in the air
Although the Republican Party, already well-voted, leads the House of Representatives, it remains to be seen which formation will control it over the next two years. According to mainstream media USA, Republicans 197 seats were secured against 167 Democrats. Both are still far from the 218 needed to secure a majority.
The Senate is also on edge.
The situation is similar in the upper chamber. democrats and the Republicans appear tied with 48 seats for each party, but there are four more races to decide, all in swing states that can choose either conservative or progressive sides. As of early Wednesday morning, the winner was still unknown in Wisconsin, Georgia, Arizona and Nevada.
No Republican Wave
One of the few certainties of the night was that the expected wave did not exist. republicanfor which several polls and analysts have indicated that the conservatives have embraced and prevailed by wide margins in several electoral contests, both in the Senate and especially in the House of Representatives.
Democrats snatched two gubernatorial posts
One of the good news for Democratic Party was what he grabbed Republican Party two governorships in the country: Massachusetts and Maryland. Although both states are progressive, they have been ruled by Republicans for the past few years and will now return to Democratic control.
Trump is no guarantee of success
Republicans have seen several candidates promoted with great vigor by former President Donald Trump (2017-2021) lose their respective contests. The former president, who continues to wield gigantic influence in the Republican Party, has suffered this election at a time when all indications are that he is preparing his 2024 presidential candidacy.
Biden sighed a little more calmly.
If the night was bad for Trump, the opposite is true for current President Joe Biden. The Democrat arrived at the polls with his popularity at the bottom and with the threat that the Republicans would sweep away his party in Congress, which did not happen. It’s also possible the Democrats will lose both houses, but at least the president can breathe a little easier. EFE
