In the state budget of Ukraine for 2023, 122.12 billion hryvnias were allocated for education, which is 20% less than in the past. This was reported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
It is reported that the subvention, which is directed to the salaries of school teachers, will be reduced by 19% next year, and that spending on higher education will also be reduced by 19%.
In addition, the budget program, which financed the production of textbooks, was reduced by 40%.
Some expenditure items remained at this year’s level or increased.
Two new subventions appeared: 1.5 billion for the repair of shelters in schools, and 1 billion for school buses (since many school vehicles were sent to the needs of the Armed Forces).
It was also reported that the government saw an opportunity to increase the state budget expenditures of the Ministry of Education and Science for 2023 to the second reading by UAH 555 million.
The added funds will be redistributed as follows:
• 50 million for vocational education;
• 20 million for the President’s Fund for Education, Science and Sports Support;
• 30 million for the Small Academy of Sciences;
• 150 million for the development of state distance education;
• 90 million for the National Research Foundation;
• 215 million to conduct an external assessment for the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment.
“Perhaps the budget is a little smaller than the teachers expected, but we will definitely be able to cope. I thank everyone who joined the work on the development of proposals for the State Budget for next year in the direction of education and science ,” Sergei Shkarlet said.
We remind you that earlier it was reported that displaced students and residents of particularly dangerous territories in Ukraine may switch to state-funded education. This applies to students enrolled in institutions in previous years in commercial areas.
